C6 SPIED!
by CStingray78
Check it out!... Chevy is coming out with the next generation Corvette for the upcoming model year. Not sure if it deserves its own generation because it does not look that radical over all. Here's the full article:

Don't look for a carbon-fiber body and aluminum hydroformed frame on the new C6 Corvette—they're reserved for the Le Mans effort. But shown here is the latest spy photo of the C6 Corvette coupe.
Evolutionary rather than revolutionary, the double-bubble roof contrasts with knife edge fenders fore and aft that extend into the doors, a la '68-'82 Vettes. Door handle cutouts in the rear fenders and a squared-off gas filler door are part of a crisper, sharper profile. Ultra low-profile run-flats on new five-spoke wheels and drilled rotors hint at an upgraded performance level.
Expect the new Corvette to be introduced at the 2004 Detroit auto show in January, arriving in dealer showrooms by next fall." - Car and Driver
I don't like the built in headlight look. Call me old fashioned, but it has been a trademark of the vette to have flip up headlights and keeps the car looking slick overall. And, the black wheels have GOT TO GO!... This is no Honda Civic, so lose the lost hubcap look
I'll just have to wait and see when the covers are removed and then judge rather or not it is worthy of the C6 generation!

looks like GM is taking its cue's from ferrari.
Yeah, there's not need for some of the styling on this new Vette. And you're right, it really doesn't look too much different than a C5. Sure, they've added in a lot of angled-cuts and removed the flip up headlight, but I'm not sure it was time for a new generation. I don't know if it's even getting a new engine; it may just use the LS1 or LS6.

It doesnt look much different. I will disagree i kind of like the sunk in head light look. It also seems to be a bit more bumpyer, for lack of better word. I guess more rounded is what im trying to say. The black wheels dont look that bad either, but they would look better on a black vert. Anyways i guess we will have to wait and see what it looks like when it is done..

Dude, chrome or magnesium wheels on a black Vette!! I've never been a fan of black wheels on a car, and I don't think I ever will...

Black wheels are for hubcaps... A car like that NEEDS some :*Bling Bling*: Bring back the chrome!
Tom
Look at the 35th aniversary Trans Am pace car, it had black wheels.
See...
and
That looks pretty damn bling bling to me. So black wheels do look alright it just depends on the application.

I bet a set of 20" SpreeWells would make it look even more "pipe hittin'"
Application is everything!

OK, so I was talking to Greg....
Apparently the new C6 is gonna have the LS6 as a stock motor. A year after the new C6 comes out, the new Z06 package will be available with an even better motor!! He said somewhere in the neighborhood of 500HP!!! Can't wait to see what happens!

That is bad ass that will be like viper horse power for half the price. I only hope that ford pulls through with the new mustang.. That is the only way it will be able to compleate with this new bread of muscil cars.

I'm pretty sure that there will be a model with ~500 horses. I also agree that there needs to be pop up headlights and an even more distinguished look to be classified C6.
Something else, too...
What GM needs to do is to make more options available for all of their cars. Granted that it is nice that the Vette comes loaded with the options of hardtop, targa top, convertible, or Z06 hardtop, but cars seem to be heading towards a more nostalgic era, right? (Ford GT, new Mustang, GTO, etc). The Vette should be option with 3 or 4 different suspension setups, 4 different engines (V8's), slightly different styling cues, and even 4-wheel drive. Make a range of prices for a cloth interior, manual locks/windows/mirrors, no A/C (essentially a 1LE package), with a LS1, and basic independent suspension & hardtop for $37,500 up to a completly loaded, magnetic ride suspension, Cadillac XLR goodies (push button start, key-sensing entry), detuned 7.0 litre C5R racing engine pushing 550 hp Convertible for $65,000. And then have all the options in between because I think that cars today are just bland and grouped with things that people may not want but have to get because it's in the package.
You know when you pull up next to an Accord if it's a 4 or 6. Same with a Firebird, Mustang, Camaro and many of the cars in the 90's through today. I believe in 1979, the Firebird had 8 engine choices, from an OHV 6 in the base up to a 6.6 litre OLDSMOBILE engine in the Trans-Am, Right Rob!?! Also, from what I've gathered, GM system for ordering cars and options isn't exactly the most efficient like Honda's. At Honda, if you want a Civic, it is broken down into LX, EX, Si, or Hybrid. At these different levels there is only about 3 options to choose not counting cosmetic options. Try to build a Pontiac Grand Prix or Bonneville at Pontiac.com and you will see what I mean by confusing and not efficient.
Still, break options into groups for a discount but offer all options seperately as long as there isn't conflict like ordering suspension springs with standard shocks/struts.
I think I'm done...

Check these sites out... I thought it was pretty cool how it breaks down the options for ANY model year Vette and even has graphs of the production generations. Just from the 68-82 generation, you can't even imagine the list of different options there were to choose from

That is pretty cool. However they do offer options like these for newer cars, but you cant pick and choose, you can only pick a package..

I don't know, but from the front pictures, it looks real close to a Viper. Maybe just me but the sharp edges and the headlights look close to the new model Vipers. Check out some of the new motor specs, a 6.0L V8.
