O man, this shit is right up my alley... I will take some pics of my rig tonight and explain it all. You can def use a TV as a PC monitor. Some are mor difficult than others, but it is very possible.

First, what kind of TV is it and what do you have available on the back of it for inputs? RCA, SVIDEO, RGB (monitor connection)?

I can help you more from there...

Actually Tom the way I understand it is reverse of what you have set up (which by the way is quite pimp), I am reading it as Mike wants to plug a computer monitor into a dvd player and play the dvd player through the monitor leaving the computer out of the equation.

A quick google search turned this up...

It looks like you can feed it a bunch of different video inputs and it outputs them to XGA...

I belive something like posted above is what you will want to get Mike...

OK, I get ya... (still want to take pics of my rig at home)..

But yes, you can take a PC monitor and make it into a TV. The box to do the conversion can be a couple hundred bucks, and it is almost creeping into the territory to just buy a 15" or 17" LCD TV, instead of the monitor and then the converter.

But anyways, here is what you need:

Specs:

Purchase:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815100126

OR

Purchase:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815116003

Either one of the two will work. I would hit google and see if you can find any product reviews to see if they have the best bang for your buck.

The thing I like about the second one, is all the RCA and Coax connections are on the back of the box, whereas the first one has the coax on the back and the RCAs on the front. Could look a little messay depending on where you want to install it all.

Tom I like the ones you posted but you are right they are pretty expensive and a 15" or 17" lcd TV could probally be had for a little more then the price of getting that and a computer monitor.

Mike the one I posted is only for hooking an external video source up to the monitor such as a game system, vcr, or dvd player. The ones that Tom posted actually allow for a live feed via cable or satellite, or I guess even a set of rabbit ears...

Wow I think this thread has to be one of the most replyed to theards in the shortest period of time in SR2k1's history... Shocked Cool

Anyways back on topic...

Mike Before you go and buy anything like this off E-Bay I would do a little research on the actual product. Read reviews and such. These converters look like something that would either work they way you want it to or be a pain in the ass. I wouldnt want you spending money on something that was a piece of shit..

I thought he wanted cable TV an all that running into it too...

And stay off eBay for that type of thing. I'd buy it from either of the 2 links I sent you before. That way you have support on the product incase you need a replacement or tech support.

If you dont want it to play an actual TV feed then the one I posted is fine. It will allow you to play your dvd player, vcr and playstation.. It also allowed you to use the monitor for your computer as well. It had a little toggle that would let you toggle back and forth between the computer and anouther external source...
