Scion tC dragster debuts this weekend

Posted Jun 4, 2005, 12:23 PM ET by Walter J Keegan Jr.

Christian Rado of WORLD Racing will debut his dragging tC in the Pro Outlaw Front Wheel Drive class at the June 4-5 NDRA Xbox Event at Florida’s Moroso Motorsports Park. The racing tC is powered by a 2.7-liter 3RZFE Toyota engine producing 1,200 horsepower on methanol. A second tC is in the works to run the All-Motor/Pro Stock class in 2006 to be driven by Leslie Durst. Let’s see if the tC can take the drag world by storm like it did the compact coupe market.

Look at the pic again... Kinda looks weird with it tubbed in the opposite direction!

And how do you get 1200Hp out of a 2.7L engine? And how many runs down the track could that possibly withstand?

Wow, you are right Tom it is always weird seeing a car tubbed in the oposite direction. I think the first time I saw this was on a celica in a magazine of my brothers. Definatly odd looking. And I want to know how the hell they cram that much horse power out of a 2.7 liter engine. Oh well an odd looking car, but it may actually do well if it doesnt fall apart.

Well, Methanol has more power-producing-potential than does gasoline. Hydrogen also has more potential power, but there are complications with keeping carbon monoxide emissions within EPA standards when using Hydrogen. Methanol has had similar emissions problems but seems to be the next step in alternative fuels. A given engine, powered by methanol, will produce more power than the same engine powered by gasoline.

but still, to get 1200hp out of 2.7ltr is.. mind boggling.
I mean, the new Bugatti doesn't even get 1200hp!..

unless methanol really is that powerful..

Apparently the 1.whatever liter that comes with the tC isn't good enough for drag racing.

When the Tc was first being talked about I always thought that the TC stood for Turbo Charged.. I guess It didnt and thefore the car is slow. But it is the coolest looking scion..

Did a little research and it looks like the 2.7 liter 3RZFE engine is out of the mid-90's Tacoma and 4-Runner...
