Header installation on a 1971 Corvette
by Steve
I'm working on a "71" Vette, installing Dynomax headers. I'm having a problem with the clutch bar, some call it a "Z" bar, from the block to the frame. The bar is in contact with the header pipe and there is no room, that I can find, for adjustrments.
I installed the identical headers on my "71" Vette a year ago and I have at least 100/1000th clearance between the pipe and clutch bar.
If any one has had the same problem and came up with a solution I would love to hear from you.

i don't have a corvette but i know what your talking about. I have an 87 Monte Carlo SS and i know that some headers have clearance problems also. there is really only two solutions to this problem and both pretty much suck ass. First solution....Figure out where the header is touching the bar, and take a ballpeen hammer and hit the header pipe until you have enough clearance. Second solution....im not sure what kind of bar exactly you talking about whether it is sqare or round. but if it is like a square frame bar....you could notch out the bar and weld in equal or thicker patch piece. just remember for both of these solutions....when you nail the gas the motor is gonna move a little (torquing the motor). Im not sure what side your talking about but one side of the motor is gonna lean down and the other is gonna go up.
