Over-rated sports cars

What do you think is the most over-rated car (sports car or any car)?

Any Car: Scion: overrated
-THE SURGEON GENERAL WARNING NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT SMOKING A FORD
Most overrated sports car in my opinion is the Corvette. Nothing against Tom or Kenny, I like the car, I just think many people have the mind set ohhhhh i got a corvette, therefore it is faster and better then your car. Which sometimes that is the case and sometimes it isnt. The corvette has always had the rating of Americas best sports car, and they even underated some late 80's vehicles so the c4 vette would stay on top. Dont get me wrong they arent bad cars, and are designed very well, look at the trend of the c5 and all the awards it has won. But i think they are over rated in the aspect that everyone thinks they are the quintesential american sports car.

No offense taken. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But think about this... how many cars emulate the vette technology (powertrain, frame, interior, etc) just one year after the vette's have it. You can get a "vette" in a GTO, Camaro, or TransAm with a different body on top if you want to wait a year for the technology. It makes it tough to be overrated when so many others try to emulate you.
It does suck that the be a Corvette Owner, you may have to fork out a little more dough to get the year, make, or model you like the best. But, I guess that makes it all the more interesting when you see a C1, C2, or C3 pass you on the road because you don't see them all the time. As opposed to the myriads of 5.0s, Firebirds, and Camaros you can pass by on a daily basis. In making those kinds of cars more affordable to the average person, it makes it very difficult to stand out amongst the rest. You have to do a lot to your car just to get noticed against the other stock "brothers and sisters" on the road.
IMO, the comeback of the Pontiac GTO was overrated. Ok, it had the power, and new interior styling, but the exterior brought no likeness to the baddies of the old days. It looked like a Grand Prix. All the talk of the revival left the public in a huge disappointment to see what Pontiac took 30 years to remake.

i gotta say i agree with jeremy...like he said its nothing against corvettes but it has a huge title to live up to but the c5 and c6 are not at all intimidated by the pressure...but first off the first corvette had a v-6 and as much as i love the stingrays they are not the fastest things like everyone seems to believe. i mean think about the 67 camaro with the 302 c.i. they stopped production on that motor for one reason... b/c it made the camaro faster then the corvette. like jeremy said they underated manycars to keep the iconic corvette on top, also during the 80's they dropped (hp) for gas prices and the c4 corvette was actually slower then the 5.0L mustang!
no matter what...the corvette is still the american muscle car in my eyes...it has no problem living up to its huge standards....when your on the top the only place to go is down and thats why i think the corvette seems a little overated
No arguement there... the mid to late C3s are not the fastest cars in the world, believe me. But, its the nostalgic look that sets them apart. Sometimes its not just about speed, its the whole package.
Tom I will agree with you there, but most of the time when someone thinks of a corvette they think of speed. And some of the model years arent the fastest, some are down right slow. And as mentioned before there was a 6 cylinder model back in the day. But like matt said they are an icon and i will accept that becuase they are part of our history, like the mustang, the gto, camaro, and firebirds. And you are correct there are alot more of the later mentioned cars. Think about it though the new vettes are 45,000$, new mustang GT cost 25,000$ and a new cobra is like 35,000$, camaros and firebirds were about the same price of the GT when they were still in production. Look at those numbers you see alot more of the mustangs camaros and firebirds, becuase they are cheaper then the vette, and arent that much slower, the vette you are partually paying for the name. Tom dont get me wrong, I like corvettes, I really like your 72 and i like the split windows, I also like the styling of the c5 and c6, i just think for what they are they are over rated.

Well........ ASS
sorry tom but im with jeremy and matt on this one....and to get one thing straight Covettes are NOT muscle cars....they are sports cars....a sport car in definition in the past has meant a two seater....so therefore i don't really but the corvette in the same catagory as mustangs, firebirds and camaros...
i do agree with jeremy and matt tho....corvettes are way overrated....like metioned above you are mostly paying for the name....like take a 2002 Z28 and match it up with a 2002 Corvette....the camaro you gonna spend like 35,000 and the corvette your gonna spend about 50,000.....with that extra 15,000 dollars what are you really getting??? not that much besides a fiberglass body that has more reinforcements on the car then any other car making it a very heavy car anyway....if you went out and bought a 2002 Camaro Z28 and saved your self the extra 15,000 dollars and then turned around and used that money to enhance the car.....it would come out faster and look better then the corvette....
but corvettes are suppose to be chevy's top of the line car....its always been like that and it probably always will.....but thats not to say that its always been the fastest or the best looking....its supoose to be but there have been a few years where cars killed the vette in quarter mile times
for me and this is just my opinion....i would never purchase a corvette! these cars are just not for me and like said above are way overrated for me....i also have the way some corvette owners are with there cars.....ITS A FUCKING CHEVY JUST LIKE MINE!!! its no better

I like my Vette and I like my Mustang and I'd like to think that I don't brag because I own either one. I hate people like that. Corvettes don't make you any better than a Mustang or Camaro guy.
Tom none of us are ragging on you. None of us said you bragged either. Mike was just making a general statement about corvette drivers in general. It was not dirrected at you specifiacally... To each his own you have your vette and you love it that is all that matters. Our opinion is they are over rated, but that may not be yours. You may think a mustang is over rated that is your opinion. This is an opinionated thread and every one will have a different opinion...

Yeah, thats a good thing... I am actually glad to see that people actually use this website besides you and I.
my bad...i ment to say sports car.... but even though the corvette is a lot more expensive there will always be people out there who have $50,000 to spend and only one way to spend it so i like to think if its not broke dont fix it...and the vette may be a little overrated and a little overpriced but it sets itself aside by being in a league of its oun and can only be described as a "corvette"
Speaking of over-rated... how about that new NSX... Not so much bang for all those bucks!
