Hey all:

I tried to have a conversation with my esteemed colleagues here at school this morning about Jet Hot Coating. I did some price checking and it seems like I can get my side pipes coated inside and out with their "Sterling" finish for about $600. The Sterling finish looks like Polished Aluminum.

Here is what they were able to quote me:
Tom,

It would run $480 to coat your parts inside & out with our Sterling
finish. Add $80 for us to strip off the chrome plating. We'll need them
here for about 5 days plus shipping time. Return shipping would be $60.

I will send you our full information package to get you all the coating
benefits in greater detail. It will not turn colors like chrome or
stainless. Also it lowers under-hood temperatures by 40 degrees, keeps
the pipes 25% cooler and gets you 1-3% extra horsepower. Of course,
it's highly rust resistant as well - 140x better than paint. Because of
that we expect it to increase part life be 10x or more.

All parts receive a 3 year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping,
peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting - anything. New parts also
get a lifetime rust through warranty as well.

Sounds like a good deal to me. But, would it be better to get a new set of side pipes that have only a black finish and then have them Coated?? I have a few options here and I don't think it is something that nees to be fixed immediately, but I would like the advice for when the time gets there.

Thanks!
Tom

Umm i have heard very good things about Jet Hot coating.. To anwser your question though, if you could sell your chrome ones and make a little money from them i would go with the black ones and have them coated. If you dont think you can sell yours i would just have them painted. No need to buy a new set and have your old set go to waste..

Can you buy new ones already coated? Would shipping be a factor? I can't imagine it costs less than $50 to ship those suckers.

This is what I managed to check out on Summit's Website.

They have the following:
http://store.summitracing.com/product.asp?d=8&s=129&p=4034&searchtype=ecat&l=HOK

Hooker Super Competition Sidemount Headers and Mufflers
Finish: Black $389.95 Headers + $209.69 Side Tubes
Hooker Super Competition Sidemount Headers and Mufflers
Finish: Ceramic Coated $579.95 Headers + ?
Hooker Super Competition Sidemount Headers and Mufflers
Finish: Chrome Plated $899.99 Headers + ?

Weird thing is I was only able to find the Side Tubes in Black on Summit's Website. No idea why, but I will try to find the prices of the Ceramic and Chrome Side Tubes.

Now, I should be able to use the mufflers I have now and save about $100 there.

Again, this is just to do my research so that I can make the purchase when the time comes.

Yeah, got a few other projects in progress at the house and it hasn't left much time to begin. Confused I will keep you all updated with pics from this summer's project!
