Evolution vs. WRX STI
by GDAWG
If you had to pick one, what would it be? EVO VIII or WRX STI?
( 5 ) ( 63% ) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
( 3 ) ( 38% ) Suburu Impreza WRX STI
Choose between these two indesputible powerhouses.
Leave a comment about why or why not one or the other.

I voted for the Impreza because its crazy to see what those things can do on the road, as well as off the road in Rally racing!

I would choose the Evolution
It makes more effcient power from a smaller engine (2.0 liter in Evo makes 271 hp, 2.4 liter in STI makes 300 hp) and has a higher power:weight ratio.
The Evo has aftermarket parts already built in like Brembo brakes and Sparco seats. The Evo even has a water sprayer for the intercooler
Plus, the engine is the same model used in the first generation turbo Eclipse/Laser/Talon, so there is definate aftermarket support for that.
Moreover, it is the cheaper of the two cars and has 'evolved' since the introduction of the first lancer in the late '80's/early '90's.
Just my thoughts

OK, now I don't know.
After visiting the Motor Trend International Auto show, I am leaning towards the WRX STI.
The build quality of the EVO wasn't what I thought it would be and I didn't even see a boost gauge
The WRX STI felt more solid and the seat and controls were more pleasing to me. It had a boost gauge on the steering column---it was in your face.
Regardless, I'm sure both of these cars wouldn't disappoint, however, I was still suprised

Thats true, the WRX did have the boost gauge placed in an odd spot, but I guess thats better than not having one at all. Also, I like the way the WRX looks overall with the functional hood scoop and the body... Sweet Ride

Both are bad ass rides, but im still going to have to go with the EVO. I really liked the way that one looked.

i would go with the evo. since i know someone that has one.
im all about the sti b/c they are a more purpose built machine they seem to me that they would have rather attracted buyers with numbers not looks...although i think the sti looks better the evo just seems to try to hard for a stock car.
