The first phase of the car computer install was getting the wiring complete and installing the shutdown controller(turns the laptop on and off when you switch your ignition). I hacked the power button on the docking station to wire it to the shutdown controller, that way elimitating any need to damage the laptop. I ran new speaker wire while I had the car apart, too. I still need an amp to get proper sound, but I'll try to pick one up very soon. Right now the unit is in place and working how I want it to! I'll post a Phase 2 section when I start incorporating the GPS, OBD1 diags, and other components.

Dude that is looking good so far. One of these days I am going to build one of these for my mustang. They are so versitile, and are much cheaper the puchasing a navigation style head unit..

Looks good so far. You are a brave soul taking on a car that how so many elelctronics to start with and being crammed in there so tight. I sam sure there were several references made to needing the hands of a small asian girl to work on that thing.

Godd luck on the next phase.

Yes Steve, Asian hands definitely built this car. "Shhhhh...Don't tell no one." Anyway, the next phase(s) will be more additions including:

1. GPS receiver
2. Component amp and speakers
3. Wireless keyboard w/built in trackball
4. Bluetooth receiver for cell phone
5. USB Hard Drive
6. OBD1 to serial cable

I bought the GPS receiver off eBay the other night for $30, but the rest of the pieces will cost more and it will be a while before they're all in place. I think for now the next phase will involve me installing the audio equipment and the GPS receiver. I would like to get the arcade machine finished so I'll work on that for a while after this phase is complete. I'll post pics when I get it rolling.
