need computer help
ok guys i am pretty computer retarded so i figured that i would come to the experts for some help we have a cable modem on our computer in the basement and i believe that i can use the modem in other rooms in the house is this not possible and could you tell me how to do it please thanks a lot
Easiest way to do it is buy one of these

and one of these for each computer you want to hook up (Laptop version of this is slightly different looking)....

Put the wireless card into each computer, then run the modem into the router and configure the router and you are good to go.. That is the basic cut and dry version of how to do it.

All you need to do Steve is buy a Router. I will provide some links so that you know what to look for.
What the router does is basically split that cable connection so you can share it with other PCs in your network (home). There are 2 flavors, wired, and wireless. The most efficient and secure is a wired router. But, the downside is that you have to run a network cable (called CAT5e) to a network card on each PC. The CAT5e network connection on a PC looks like a big phone cable outlet.
Wireless means not having to run that cable to each PC, but the performance and reliability can be affected.
In any case, depending on the scenario, here is the hardware you will need:
Wired:
Cable Modem Router (Linksys or Netgear)
Wireless:
Cable Modem Router (Linksys or Netgear)
Continue on with the questions. This is just the beginning. But this is a list of hardware you will need to start. I have provided links to Linksys or Netgear network products since they are easily available at Staples, Office Depot, or even WalMart.

What the hell does this have to do with cars? ^^^^^^^^^^^
God created turbo lag to give V8's a chance.
Well, if you had an in car MP3 player you wanted to sync your MP3 files with wirelessly while you car is parked in the driveway, it may be of some use.

ok i bought the router and instead of the pci card the guy suggested this thing that plugs into the usb port. but to run my router it says to plug a wire that runs into the pc into the router i believe but i dont have any wires that connect my modem to my pc either than the usb cable and the cable wire is plugged into the back of my modem so im lost as of now?
Sounds like you have the wired type of router and network card (USB in your case). To connect your PC to the router, you need a CAT5e Network Cable. Sometimes its advertised as a Network Patch cable. They come in varying lengths, so buy the right length to connect your PC to the router.
lookin for a patch chord? $3.50 for 10' chord and color your choice....Ill sell ya the 48 port patch pannel too if your feeling really crazy

Now now Mike, don't take advantage... but it sounds like he will need the Patch cables.
