Ok I can deal with needing to upgrade somethings but TV is a hard thing to do that to since alot of backwoods people could give 2 craps about HDTV. I was fine with the article till I got to this point:
Why in the HELL to we need to subsidize these people. Every time I pay my phone bill I bitch because I pay a fee for low-income people to have a phone so they can talk to Yowanda and how many kids she has. I can see providing essesntial services to less fortunate people, but TV does not qualify in my book.
Most discussions in Washington contemplate some sort of free or subsidized converters for low-income households, paid for by the government, perhaps with the help of broadcasters or consumer electronics manufacturers. Estimates for the costs of that subsidy range from under one to several billion dollars — the cost declining as the cut-off date is moved further into the future. Proponents argue that the cost of the subsidy is small compared to the economic benefits, although last year the Bush administration indicated it was not in favor of subsidized converters.

Steve I completely agree with you, I had just kind of skimed over the article, and missed that part. Why should we have to pay for some poor and uneducated person with 10 kids to have TV. I dont know I just cant see this flying but the government will do what the government wnats to do.

I can't tell you how true that is. I can remember having food drives with the Scouts in order to provide a Thanksgiving / X-Mas dinner for less fortunate families, and then to see their big screen TV in the living when we delivered it to them. I guess the priorities for "less fortunate" people is to have a big screen in their trailer.

I completely forgot about that Tom, and you are so right, most people who are less fortunate are that way becuase they got their priorities in the wronge places.
